These hands-on interactive demonstrations teach cooking skills, provide nutritional facts and tips for incorporating fresh foods and healthy eating habits into everyday routines, and are specifically designed for prostate cancer patients and their families.

Eating healthy is a goal for most people, but often is a difficult one to achieve as many of us lead busy lives. Stress further complicates the ability to make and sustain changes in eating habits. Imagine adding the stress of a cancer diagnosis.

On top of this, cancer treatments may result in sensitivity to certain foods, changes in taste, weight loss, fatigue and difficulty tolerating food, all of which make it challenging to maintain healthy and nutritious eating habits and diet. It’s no wonder, then, that Cancer Support Community’s Research and Training Institute has found that the number one concern of cancer patients is “eating and nutrition.”

The Cooking for Wellness program at COUG is a resource for Central Ohio Urology Group patients, family members and caregivers to achieve their goal to change and improve their personal health. Each class provides hands-on demonstrations, food knowledge and healthy recipes, all offered at no cost.

The Cooking for Wellness program at Central Ohio Urology Group consists of monthly hands-on cooking demonstrations in which a Cancer Support Community credentialed chef and licensed dietitian demonstrate how to create healthy meals. The classes have been open for prostate cancer patients, survivors, family members, and caregivers from Central Ohio Urology Group and Cancer Support Community.

Each one and a half hour-long session includes:

  • A credentialed chef providing a hands-on cooking demonstration
  • A registered dietitian to address nutritional values
  • Unique cooking themes and healthy recipes provided each month

Our goal at Central Ohio Urology Group is to provide the most advanced care in the most compassionate manner possible for each of our patients. We are excited about our partnership with Cancer Support Community. With the Cooking for Wellness program at COUG, Central Ohio Urology Group is continuing its commitment to a patient-centered system of care to improve the lives of people impacted by cancer.
