What is BPH?

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

This is a condition in which the prostate enlarges as men get older. BPH is a very common condition that affects over 40 million Americans and over 500 million aging men worldwide. Over 40% of men in their 50s and over 70% of men in their 60s have BPH1.  While BPH is a benign condition and unrelated to prostate cancer, it can greatly affect a man’s quality of life.

normal prostate and enlarged prostate

As the prostate enlarges, it presses on and blocks the urethra, causing bothersome urinary symptoms such as:

  • Frequent need to urinate both day and night
  • Weak or slow urinary stream
  • A sense that you cannot completely empty your bladder

  • Difficulty or delay in starting urination
  • Urgent feeling of needing to urinate
  • A urinary stream that stops and starts

If you suffer from the above symptoms, you are not alone. BPH is the leading reason men visit a urologist.2

You can measure the severity of your BPH symptoms by taking the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaire.

MOSES™ holmium laser treatments for BPH

What is unique about MOSES™?

The Holmium laser has significantly improved the management of kidney stones, providing a less invasive and more effective treatment. Holmium lasers and associated fibers fragment stones of any composition or size through the urinary tract.

The use of Holmium lasers for the treatment of BPH is considered the new gold standard for the treatment of BPH. Being highly precise and efficient, the Holmium laser is used in two main surgical techniques: Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) and Holmium Laser Vaporization of the Prostate (HoLVP).

What does this mean for you?

Holmium laser treatments, performed under general or local anesthesia, result in:

  • Quick symptom alleviation
  • Instant improvement in quality of life
  • Minimal need for post-operative catheter
  • Minimal bleeding during and after procedure
  • A “once and you’re done” procedure with permanent results
  • Removing the entire obstructing tissue
  • Quicker recovery time

Moreover, the recurrence rate is very low due to the removal of the entire obstructive component of the prostate.
